Dental Care For Fearful Patients in Catford

Nervous Dental Patients

Needle Free Sedation Available. The best way to eliminate fear of the dentist.

I am nervous about dental care

You’re not alone. You'd be surprised at how many people are anxious about the dentist. At Rushey Green Dental Practice, we will not dismiss your anxieties – we help you find ways to cope with them.

We offer a friendly, sensitive approach that’s about what you want, and what you can handle. We will sit down with you and discuss what kind of results you are looking for and how we can help you achieve them.

You can rest assured that treatments will always be gentle and will happen at a pace you’re comfortable with.

If our kind and gentle approach isn’t quite enough to ease your nerves, we offer a number of sedation options, from tablets for mild anxiety to intravenous sedation for dental phobias.

Have a smile without fear

Dr O Dadashian and his team have received extensive specialist training in various sedation techniques suitable for dental patients in a dental practice setting.

Patients come from all over Lewisham and Southeast of England to be treated using this comfortable, safe and effective system.

What is conscious sedation?

Sedation uses either an oral medicine in the form of a small tablet or an intravenously administrated medication. Both help you to relax and be comfortable while receiving dental procedures.

Conscious sedation means that the patient is in a state where verbal contact with the dentist is maintained at all times. If a patient requires being “put to sleep” or “not wanting to be aware of anything”, then that patient is not suitable for conscious sedation and will be referred for GA (General Anaesthetics) at a hospital.

IV sedation can be used to manage dental anxiety and strong gag reflex.

Here’s a review from one of our patients who chose to opt for conscious sedation:

I am of the generation that had school dentists. I can only tell you how much I hated seeing the dentist. The practice understood my fear, took time and made put me at ease - Mrs S Bridger

What are the benefits?

Sedation will allow you to comfortably undergo everything from a simple cleaning to extensive treatments. One of the additional benefits is that the medicine has an amnesia quality which for most patients, tends to prevent almost any memory of the visit. It is sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry” because of this effect.

How long does sedation last?

For most patients, the effects of dental sedation can last between 2-4 hours. If you undergo sedation we will require you to have someone to drive you home from our South London practice.

Am I really asleep?

We call it sleep dentistry because most patients do tend to fall asleep. However it is really a conscious sedation as you can still respond to verbal commands from the dentist.

Even the most apprehensive patients have been overjoyed with the results of sedation dentistry.

Is sedation safe?

Before any sedation is administrated a pre-sedation assessment of your suitability for sedation is completed. If this is all clear then we will call you back to the practice to complete your treatment under sedation.

We constantly monitor each patient with a computerized pulse oximeter, which measures heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation during the treatment.

We also have a reversal agent on hand that reverses the effect of the sedation medicine in less than 30 seconds. Dr O Dadashian has treated nervous patients for over ten years with sedation safely and comfortably.

We care for patients every day at Rushey Green Dental Practice using these safe comfortable and relaxing sedation methods. It has been a blessing for our patients.
